How Long Does Eyebrow Serum Take to Work? A Realistic Week-by-Week Timeline

You started a brow serum two weeks ago, you check the mirror every morning, and nothing seems to have changed. Is it working? Should you switch? This is the point where most people give up, and it is almost always too early.

Brow hair grows slowly and in cycles, so every eyebrow serum needs time. Knowing what a realistic timeline looks like helps you stay consistent long enough to see results, and helps you tell the difference between a serum that needs more time and one that is not right for you. Here is how long eyebrow serum takes to work, week by week, and what affects how quickly your brows grow back.

Quick answer: most eyebrow serums need four to eight weeks of daily use before you see a visible difference, and two to four months for the full effect. Dermatologists generally suggest giving any brow treatment at least two to three months. With our Shigeru Lash & Brow Growth Serum, used morning and night, most people see visibly fuller brows in about 30 days, with the fullest results at around 60.

Why eyebrow serum takes time to work

Every brow hair goes through the same cycle. It grows for a period, stops, rests, then sheds and is replaced by a new hair from the same follicle. At any moment, your brows are a mix of hairs at different stages, which is why you never lose them all at once.

Brow hairs have a short growth phase compared with the hair on your head, which is why they stay short. Cleveland Clinic dermatologist Dr. Shilpi Khetarpal explains that brow hair cycles through growth roughly every three to four months, so changes from any treatment need about that long to show fully.

A serum does not create hairs overnight. It works on the hairs that are growing and the ones about to grow, helping them grow stronger and reach their full length. You see the change as new hairs come through and existing hairs break less, and that happens on the brow's own schedule.

Eyebrow serum results timeline: week by week

Time What is happening What you may notice
Weeks 1 to 2 The serum is reaching hairs in every stage of the cycle Usually nothing visible yet. This is normal.
Weeks 3 to 4 Existing hairs are stronger and break less Brows may look a little more even. Fine new hairs can appear in sparse spots.
Weeks 4 to 8 New hairs are growing in and lengthening The first clear difference in photos for most people
Weeks 8 to 12 More hairs reach full length Fuller brows, with gaps and tails filling in
Months 3 to 4 A full brow cycle has passed Close to the full effect for slower formulas

This is a general guide. Your own timeline depends on the serum, your age, how sparse your brows are to begin with and how consistently you apply it.

How long do different brow serums say they take?

Brands publish their own timelines, and they vary. Here is what several well-known serums state.

Serum How often Stated timeline*
Shigeru Lash & Brow Growth Serum Morning and night Visibly fuller in about 30 days, fullest at around 60
The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash and Brow Serum Morning and evening Visible volume in as little as four weeks
GrandeBROW Brow Enhancing Serum Once a day Results in six to eight weeks, full improvement at about four months
RapidBrow Eyebrow Enhancing Serum Twice a day Fuller-looking brows in as little as 60 days

*As stated on the brand site or a major retailer in October 2026. Formulas and claims change, so check the current label.

Notice that "results" and "full results" are different milestones. A serum that shows a first change at four weeks may still need two or three months to reach its full effect. For a side-by-side look at ingredients and prices, see our roundup of the best eyebrow growth serums.

What affects how fast your brows grow back with serum

Consistency

This matters more than anything else. Skipping days, or using a serum only when you remember, slows results for every formula. Follow the schedule on your label, whether that is once or twice a day.

Where you start

Brows that are thin but still have plenty of hairs usually respond faster than brows with large bare patches. A serum works on follicles that are still active. It cannot bring back follicles damaged by years of heavy plucking, waxing or scarring.

Age

Brow hair growth slows with age, often starting at the outer tails, so mature brows may take a little longer. Our guide to why eyebrows thin after 40 explains why.

Grooming habits

Every hair you pluck resets the clock for that follicle. Put the tweezers away while you use a serum and shape only obvious strays well outside the brow line.

Health and nutrition

Thyroid problems, anemia and low iron, vitamin D, biotin or zinc can all slow hair growth. If you suspect any of these, a serum alone will not solve the problem.

How you apply it

The serum needs to reach the skin beneath the hairs, not just sit on top of them.

How to get the fastest results from your brow serum

Woman brushing brow serum onto the sparse tail of her eyebrow

  1. Start with clean, dry brows. Makeup, oil and moisturizer residue get in the way.
  2. Brush it onto the skin. Brush the serum through each brow so it touches the skin beneath the hairs, focusing on sparse areas and the tails.
  3. Use a light hand. One thin stroke per brow is enough. Extra product does not speed things up.
  4. Let it dry. Wait two to three minutes before brow gel, pencil or skincare.
  5. Do not skip. Keep the serum where you will see it every morning and night.
  6. Be gentle. Remove brow makeup without scrubbing, and avoid rubbing your brows.

Eyebrow serum before and after: how to track your progress

Brow changes are gradual, so the mirror is a poor judge. Take your own before and after photos instead:

  • Take a photo before you start, then every two weeks.
  • Use the same spot, the same window light and the same angle each time.
  • Photograph bare brows, with no pencil or gel.
  • Take one photo straight on and one of each brow up close.

Compare week eight with week zero, not week eight with week six. The difference between consecutive photos is often too small to see, but across two months it is usually clear.

Realistic expectations: what a brow serum can and cannot do

A good serum can help thin, short or breaking brows grow stronger and fuller, and can help over-plucked brows fill back in where follicles are still active. It will not change the basic shape of your brows, grow hair through scar tissue or deliver results in days. Be wary of any product that promises dramatic change in a week.

See your doctor or a dermatologist if your brows are thinning quickly, falling out in patches or thinning along with your scalp hair. Cleveland Clinic suggests seeing a dermatologist if you notice no regrowth after about four months.

What happens if you stop using brow serum?

Results fade gradually. As each hair reaches the end of its cycle and sheds, it is replaced by a hair that grows without the serum's support, so over a few months brows return toward where they started. That is why most people keep a serum in their routine. Some brands suggest cutting back to every other day once you are happy with your results, so check your label.

A serum made to show results in about 30 days

Our Shigeru Lash & Brow Growth Serum was developed for the lash artists in our salons. It is a prostaglandin-free blend of ten amino acids with Fo-Ti, a botanical long used in traditional Asian hair care, and soothing Blue Lotus. It nourishes and strengthens brows and lashes, it is gentle enough for sensitive eyes, and a 5 ml bottle lasts 60 days. Used morning and night, most people see visibly fuller brows in about 30 days, with the fullest results at around 60.

Brow serum timeline FAQs

How long does it take for eyebrow serum to work?

Most people see a first visible change after four to eight weeks of daily use, and the full effect after two to four months. With Shigeru, most people see visibly fuller brows in about 30 days.

How long for eyebrows to grow back with serum after over-plucking?

If the follicles are still active, expect to wait at least one full brow cycle, about three to four months, for plucked areas to fill back in. Stop plucking completely during that time.

Can I speed up brow growth by applying more serum?

No. Extra product will not make hairs grow faster and is more likely to run into your eyes. Stick to the amount and schedule on the label.

When should I give up on a serum?

Give it at least eight weeks of consistent use, and ideally three months, with photos to compare. If you see no change after that, the serum may not suit you, or something else may be affecting your brows.

Does the same timeline apply to lashes?

Lashes usually respond a little faster because their growth cycle is shorter. Our guide to whether lash serums really work covers the lash timeline.
